Description

Most people may look to the East of Melbourne for wineries, meanwhile the west is producing some outstanding wines with its diverse micro climates. From the Ballarine Peninsula with it’s coastal influences, to the Grampians with their sandstone mountains. Bellbrae is named as such, due to it’s close proximity to the famous surf spot, Bells beach. 100+ years ago, the area from Bellbrae to Geelong was one of Australia’s largest wine growing region, before being reverted to paddocks. Bellbrae was the first winery to replant vines in the region with the winery being established in 1999. They focus on creating wines which have strong varietal character, with plenty of flavour intensity, that have the opportunity for aging but are made to be drank immediately. The wine making is traditional, with the use of French Oak barrels. Most of all, the wine represents the terroir of the Surf Coast, with fresh with intriguing palates which pair perfectly the local produce. This Sparrows Semillon is made with grapes from a small patch of the vineyard near the Great Ocean Road. The fruit flavours are bright and display fresh notes of citrus. All of the wine was matured in French oak, where it developed more textural and vanilla characters.
