Bowen Estate – Cabernet Sauvignon, Coonawarra, SA- 2018

Aroma: Cassis + Bay Leaf | Palate: Violet + Mulberry

100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra, SA

The Coonawarra region is a wine region centered on the town of Coonawarra in the Limestone Coast zone of South Australia. It is typified by its warm, temperate climate and valuable red clay soils (called “terra rossa”) with high iron-oxide content and is famous for it’s exceptional, age worthy and unique expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon. Summer is dry and moderate though the nights are chilly, and winter can be bracingly cold. Consistent cloud cover contributes to the cooler temperatures. A majority of the grapes grown in Coonawarra go into varietal wines. Expect a medium-bodied style with a supple palate and balanced tannin. The range of fruit flavours in the wine is largely influenced by the vintage and winemaker, covering cassis, blackcurrant, redcurrant, blackberry and mulberry in youth, developing into distinctive earthy, savoury and spicy characteristics with age. The core of this expression from Bowen Estate is the appealing blackcurrant fruit and violet notes. Whilst the finely intertwined tannins are a hallmark not only of classic coonawarra but Bowen Estate’s winemaking philosophy.
