Aroma: Strawberry + Rose Petal | Palate: Pink Grapefruit + Thai Basil

Aglianico + Nero D’Avola + Sagrantino from Heathcote, VIC

In 2008 the Chalmers family purchased an 80 hectare property on the Mt Camel in Heathcote. The vineyard now holds 24 different varieties of grape. There are many vinification experiments are being conducted on the individual characteristics of the soils of different blocks within the site, to further improve the productivity and sustainability. It is from this site, that parcels of fruit are sold to more than 40 different winemakers, from those making wine in their garages to well established wineries, utilising their grapes. The Chalmers Rosato is made from mostly Aglianico (the same grapes as the final wine in this line up) with a splash of Nero d’Avola and Sagrantino. The terroir of the Heathcote plot gives a distinct elegance and prettiness to the red varieties grown there, despite these varieties being traditionally full bodied and thick skinned. The Aglianico portion of the blend is fermented in old barriques to soften whilst the others are co-fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain freshness. Resulting in a refreshingly dry rose with the palest delicate hue which still has enough texture and finesse to intigue the finest wine connoisseur.
