Everything Hochkirch does from their bio-dynamic wine making to classic labels, they do with old school class
and a new world approach and this Syrah is the epitome of that. Syrah, nicknamed ‘Shiraz’ by the Aussie market, originated from the Northern Rhone and is typically a rich powerful red wine. The use of Syrah in Australia is generally a stylistic choice, it signifies that the winemaker was going for a prettier, nuanced and more ‘feminine’ style of wine than the typical big, bold, bulky Barossa style Shiraz. This expression of the grape is a fragrant and spicy medium bodied wine with aromas of earth and plums with a touch of cloves and black pepper. The palate shows savoury/briary flavours with a certain richness that are framed by fine silky tannins and a graphite minerality. This artful balance of flavour and complexity married with the hand bottling technique and biodynamic certification produces a timeless, elegant wine.
