Jim Barry first tasted Assyrtiko in ’06 whilst on holiday on the island of Santorini in Greece, the birthplace of the varietal. Intrigued with his new discovery, he began the process of importing the first cuttings into
Australia through quarantine. Assytiko may be one of Greece’s more famous grapes, but worldwide it is
considered rare in terms of vineyard area. This clear, fresh wine is the palest straw colour in the glass and
provides a true expression of terroir in a similar way to Jim Barry’s Clare Valley Rieslings with aromas of
citrus blossom and Meyer lemon combined with honeydew melon and baking spice. The palate is textured
and well-weighted with great concentration.
